Star Light, Star Bright

As I was gaze in the sky last night, I saw thousands to millions of stars in the sky. Then I remember the event last year when the evening star, or also known as the planet Venus sits on top of a crescent moon. This was happened last May 16, 2010.

This was a very beautiful sight that very evening where almost everybody saw this once in a blue moon event. You may wonder how does the planet Venus sits on top of the crescent moon that day. This was because the orbit of the planet Venus lies inside the orbit of the Earth around the Sun. And when the Venus’s orbit passes between the Sun and to our planet Earth, it also reproduces the Sun’s light to our planet so when it moves from the evening to the morning sky, it becomes extremely noticeable and looks like a star.

This amazing and natural phenomenon has no effect in our planet. Some said that the alignment of planets have been taking place for more than hundred years and there has never been any effect on the Earth that has been documented.

This phenomenon also implies the symbolism of Islam because the star and the crescent moon actually pre-date the Islam for many thousands of years. These ancient celestial signs were in use by the individuals of Siberia and Central Asia as they worship the Sun, sky gods and moon.

As for now, there is no actual date when we will see again the evening star with the crescent moon, but luckily we can see the crescent moon paired with the largest planet in the solar system, Jupiter. This will be happened on March 5, 6 and 7 as the crescent moon visits Jupiter. You can see this after sunset so be ready with this spectacular event of the year.

Hmmm… this was a fantastic event. I also recalled how Jupiter, Venus and crescent moon aligned at the same day and they look like smiling since the two planets serve as the eyes and the crescent moon as the lips. This was a very rare coincidence for the crescent moon to be present when they are going to be so close together.
