The Natures of Bats

My family and I went to the bat kingdom yesterday and I really wonder why bats are among the most hated, feared and misunderstood animals all over the globe. This is because of their appearance since their eyes are almost the same with a fox. As I researched about the some interesting facts about bats, I discovered that bats are the only mammal that can really fly and they are the second biggest order of mammals worldwide.

The species of bats reach for over 1,000 kinds globally and you can find them in every continent except Antarctica. They cannot live in places that are very cold or very hot. The biggest bats can be found in warm places, while little bats live in both cold and warm areas. When the weather is cold, they hibernate or migrate in warmer climate.

When they hibernate, they assemble in big groups of hundreds and sleep together to make themselves warm. The mother bats have only one baby in their litter and the baby bats are called pups. When they are born, it normally has no hair and their eyes are closed. They hang to their mother and drinks milk. When the baby bats are almost four months, they can now learn how to fly.

The color of a bat is also depends on their species. They may come in reddish brown, white, brown and gray. They are also known from being very sociable and live in big colonies just like what we saw yesterday in the bat kingdom. The life span of a bat is between four to 30 years depending on what specie they belong.

They love dark areas such as holes in the tree, caves and even buildings. Since they sleep most of the day, they were very active at night that is why they are called nocturnal. The amazing thing about them is that bats sleep upside down. They use their feet to hold in a board or twig, and when the weather is cold, they hang closer together.
